NO MPEG registering for TWO WEEKS MINIMUM!!!

Ok here is the problem. Right from the horses mouth this morning. Sonic
Foundry's licensing has EXPIRED for ligos!!! They are going to use a new
encoder but the coding is not finished. Ligos was unwlling to extend the
licensing for two weeks so if you are stuck in this window then you are
hosed. Here is SF's solution. Are you all sitting down? Download Tsumami
Mpeg encoder!!! Ha! I have been using that for quite a while I almost fell
out of my chair!

Well I want to rant a bit... This is the one of the most unprofessional
situations I have ever heard of! Your license expired? You have got to be
kidding. In my business (semiconductor industry) if this ever happened to us we would
have lawyers on knocking on your door that afternoon. Amazing absoulutely amazing!

Ok I feel better... Who is getting fired over this anyways?

Well, what I was told way back a year ago was that the reason for all the MPEG registration nonsense was because Sonic Foundry opted for a limited license to use the Ligos encoder instead of getting a unlimited license which apparently costs a good deal more. So Ligos required they keep track of all registered users and they paid a licensing fee based on use. At least the good news is I think they dumped Ligos. Finally.

I must agree completely with Ron. All these problems over trival licensing issues and the pain of clumsy activation schemes does not look very professional.

Ok SF, with my rant overwith, I do want to say
that in regards to the software in general and
not including the crazy registration, I really
love video factory. It is a great piece of
software.

What I want to know is who gets the new mpeg plug in? I've had trouble with the existing mpeg plug in--I would like to try the new one. Is the new mpeg plug in available to all registered Video Factory 2.0 users or just those who buy the product after the new plug in becomes available?
