No one can help!?

I recently posted a question re: inability to burn any clips (even 5 min clips) from Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0, but no one has responded. Can anyone on this forum help!?

After editing a clip, I click on 'Make movie', then choose 'burn to dvd' and press 'next'. Then I get the following error message: "Read only or invalid path. Please correct it."

What can I do to fix this problem? Please help. What good is MS 3.0 if I can't burn it to DVD??

MS3 comes bundled with a limited authoring program called MyDVD. Did you install that? While I will agree, the instructions are not very clear, you first have to render the project to a mpeg file and then MyDVD will open to allow the dvd part of the project. Most people use some other dvd authoring solution as the MyDVD is quite limited. The choice of mpeg encoder (1/2) depends on the length of project you are trying to put on the dvd.
The real advantages of MS3 are not dvd burning but rather it'svideo editing capabilities.

The way I do it is

"Make Movie"
save it to you hard drive
Choose a locatation to save
Format = .avi
Template = NTSC DV
Check Fast Video resizing & Stretch Video
Click next

This will render and create a movie in .avi format
You can then play it in Windows Media Palyer. Rendering is a long process and will take at lest 3 times the length of the movie, maybe longer depending on the speed of your computer

When you burn a DVD, the DVD authoring software changes the format from .avi to .mpeg. Mpeg is a compressed format, it is not meant to be edited. Common DVD authoring software is Click 2 DVD or MyDVD (MyDVD should have came with Movie Studio. It did in mine.

So first make the movie in .avi then use a different program to import the .avi file and burn the DVD.

Thanks finally to those who have responded.

However, I'm afraid the error message I'm getting must be an error wthin the MS 3.0 program. No matter what options I choose (i.e. burn to DVD, save to hard drive, etc.), I get the same error message stated in my initial post. If I still proceed, it will go through the rendering process, only to get an error message at the end of the lengthy rendering process. Do I have a defective MS 3.0 program?!!

And, yes, I have installed the MyDVD program on my computer from the beginning. The real problem seems to stem from within MS 3.0...

After you click on Make Movie it should ask where you want to save it. You give it a location and a file name and click OK (i think or maybe it is Render or maybe it is Save, whatever.) As Electromen says it will take a long tme to render.
To burn it you need another program; Ulead Movie Factory is a good program and you can download a test copy from their web site to try out for 30 days.
It costs $37.00 to purchase. I don't think it is an intuitive program but once you figure it out it is very easy to use.

Before you go to "Make Movie" go to "File" "Project Properties" click on the "Folders" Tab Set the "Media Folder" to where you want to save all your projects. You probably want to make a new folder. Use "Browse" to make a new folder. You can save it under "My Documents" and make a new folder called "Video" or "My Video" may already be a folder. Click OK.

Next set the "Temporary files folder" make this different than your "Media Folder" and if you have a second hard drive use it. It is a good idea to make a new folder for this also. It can be anywhere on the hard drive and give it a name such as "Screenblast Temp" Click "Apply", Click "OK"

Next save your project in the Folder you created as your "Media File"
Now try to "make Movie"
Choose Save to hard drive

After choosing Save to Hard drive, and clicking next, What do you have as "File Path" ??? It should be in your "Media File" make sure it is .avi

If this does not work, give me detailed info on how you are saving and what steps you take to Make Movie.

First, thanks for your help. I have tried everything as you have suggested. When I get to the make movie section, my file path is "D:\Movies\Tyler.avi". I am still getting the dreaded "read only or invalid path. Please correct it" error message. I am at a loss... Could it be the program I'm using with my computer? (sony vaio RZ24) ???? Am I the only one getting this weird error message?

Any help would be appreciated.

Second hard drive is Western Digital internal 200 GB with an 8 meg ram buffer 7200 rpm, very fast, great for video.

By using a second hard drive for storage of media and the first drive for the program, the processor can access each making MS run faster and smoother. No matter what size you get, stay with 7200rpm and 8meg buffer.

You may want to post this to the Vegas forum. I'm kind of thinking it may be a misleading error message. You can't render any file type to your D drive, right?

That was it - I changed my folder destination to C: drive, and finally that annoying error message went away!!!

Can can you save anything to your D drive -- from any app? Are you sure the drive is correctly formatted or that a cable is not loose?

Yeah, I can save other files on the D drive. Another problem, I found out, is that I had moved 'My Documents' folder from the default C drive to D drive...
