No rear channel sound

This seems to be a new problem I haven't had before. I render a project in v6 using 5.1 surround, then burn it in dvd3 using 5.1 I get no rear channel sound. Using AC 3 i get all the channels to work, but no 5.1 treu digital sound. Any possible causes?

Recently I purchased Magix audio cleaning lab and was wondering if this might have caused any conflitcs.

how are you previewing it? I've always gotten surround on my sound systems when I make surround dvd's.

Hello. I'm previewing it on my home system. Regular store bought 5.1 movies play (sound) correctly.

Apprantly I THOUGHT I burned or was burning true 5.1, but when I check a copy of my brother's wedding transfer, it's shows 5.1 on my processor, but no rear channel output.

So what's going on, any help please. I'm using microsoft sound mapper, when I try to use my audigy 2 zs and set the channels it says it does not support the currect sample rate or bit depth. Could thois be the problem and how do can I fix it. This card is supposed to be true 5.1 compatible.

What bit rate is your AC3 224 or 448? This is probably not a great issue. When you preview your mix do the busses for the rear channes register audio? Have you tried muting the other busses to check the rear channel busses themselves in the mixer ?
jfer wrote on 11/13/2005, 6:27 PM
Actually I'm not sure wheat that bit rate is, only that for 5.1 with my audigy card i have to set the bit rate to 16 and sample to 48000. but after burning it in dvd3 and previewing it on my home syatem only left and right speakers have sound.

Are you using the AC3 encoder from Sony Vegas? If so what template are you using? If you look at the set up of the template it should tell you what rate it is using. About you mixer again did you see the rear channel busses there before you rendered the AC3?

I've had the same problem with the same card. Set your audio device back to your 2zs but in preferences select 24bit and sample rate of 96,000. You should have no problems after that (except that it will give you the error message everytime unless you make the above settings your default settings. I'm pretty sure this will fix your problem. Good luck.

Hey thanks I'll give it a shot, I'm in the middle of another attempt at burning with different settings. As soon as this is complete I'll post and let you know the results. Thanks for the help.

Well I yried those settings but it won't even let me preview (play) in vegas on the timeline unless I set the sample rate back to at least 48000. I'm ready to try premiere and encore, this is crazy

The only thing I can recommend is burning with the templates.
In DVDA, are you replacing the stereo audio file with the 5.1 audio file that you're burning? Check the properties of the media in DVDA.
Sorry to not be of more help, this is an oddity. It's doubtful that your sound card is responsible.
It's 5.1 when you're monitoring, right? And you're rendering to the 5.1 template, right?

Audio needs to be at 48k.
Start with the templates. Touch nothing.

Hmm. That IS weird. I used to get that same error all the time. I thought it was even more strange that setting a higher bitrate and depth would solve it but it always worked. Sorry if I got your hopes up. Good luck with that one.
If it has Spot stumped, I don't feel so bad.

Are you SURE you are using the rear audio channels? Check the surround panner settings. You may be just using the front two & not realize it.

Hello, don't want to leave anyone hanging on this so I'll let you know what happened. My ignorance I guess! I was not rendering the video and audio seperate, very simply I messed up in thinking I could render 5.1 audio/video together, not the case as I found out thanks to DSE. Simple fix to my seemingly complex problem. Thanks to all that helped.
