The preview goes blank because it's too slow to keep up with the smart render.... or the smart render doesn't want to be held back by the slower speed of the preview.... which ever way you want to look at it.

Not uncommon for the display on smart render systems to do funny things. Pinnacle studio for example does show the preview during smart render... but it's more like watching a picture slide show as the scrubber makes rather large hops and jumps down the timeline.

The render went off OK despite the black preview window.

I can confirm. The Preview Window will turn off when rendering, to keep from slowing down the render.

Is smart render working for some ? I get artifacts on or around just about all edit points

I have not had a smart render work properly yet. I think most people are finding this. I hope Sony is aware and issues a fix for the next patch. In the mean time, you can turn it off.

I have not had it to work correctly. That was a huge upgrade point for me as well. Some on here are of the opinion that it is a MainConcept problem and not likely to be fixable, but I am unable to form an informed opinion as I don't have any facts to support the fixability or un-fixability (new word) of the smart render. Surely though if they put the product on the market with the feature, they should be able to get it to work on a majority of machines.
