Hi Rob. Are you using the trial or a paid version of VP? On the top right of that dialogue box in your screenshot you will see a funnel-like symbol with a down arrow that opens a drop-down pick list.  If not already checked, select the “Show all formats” option which will open an expanded list of render options..Cheers, Robbie

is the trial version limited to 720p?

No... See this thread to see how to 'Show All' render options in VP-23. It was changed for the worse. Magix acknowledged it was a mistake..

Question: is the trial version limited to 720p?

@Rob-Giesel Answer - YES plus the other severe limitations on format types. For me it means I cannot properly "test" the trial so I'm sticking with my older version. This problem has not occurred with trial versions of previous VP versions. I can understand the reason behind the change but Vegas risks not getting prospective new customers when the trial doesn't provide proper testing capabilities.

I'm only a 1080 user but imagine 4k users would want to see how well Vegas handles 4k renders and their quality. Also they may want to try renders other than H264.

@Robbie It makes no difference. You only get what is shown in Rob's image although the list on the right will vary if you have custom templates which the trial imports subject to the 720 limit.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/4/2026, 6:10 PM

@rraud That only applies to the full version. The trial is severely limited with respect to render options.

@EricLNZ Correct, I render to UHD & my trials with the orig VP23 version where i could render to UHD were poor (slower than VP22), now that my Trial has run out another download of the Trial, if poss, wouldn't be any use to me if the max render is 720 😒. So the only way I'll upgrade now would be if I have money to throw away.

Thanks for the replies! I have spent hours and hours researching and trying different suggestions, and none have worked. Eventually I came across a post that suggested the trial version of 23 might be limited to 720p. That begs the question of how can I evaluate before I spend the money to upgrade when I can't be certain that the paid version does support 1080p instead of the possibility that the paid version made still not work for me. Unbelievable short-sightedness.

One other aspect to mention.

It appears, from comments in another thread, that early VP23 trial users, presumably with build 278, didn't encounter the 720 render restriction.

My impression is the trial render restrictions were introduced with build 302, replacing the previous two minute limit. Hence @Robbie @rraud you may have had trials without the 720 restriction.

Thanks @Gid and @Rob-Giesel for your comments which were posted while I was typing mine above.

Yes short-sightedness is a good way of describing the situation.

3POINT wrote on 1/4/2026, 9:18 PM

For render tests with a trial, it would make sense to return to the two minute render restriction of all formats and without a watermark. I only don't know if it's possible to register/activate all renderformats in a trial.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/5/2026, 1:28 AM

Yes, I'd prefer all formats and size renders with two minute limit. As for a watermark, I don't mind that.

rraud wrote on 1/5/2026, 11:59 AM

Thanks for the correction @EricLNZI rarely use a trial version. I do recall the 2 minute render limitation though, but that has changed.
