No SonicFoundry @ DV Expo?

dalydose wrote on 12/10/2002, 7:52 PM
I went to DV Expo-West today and hoped (and expected) to see Sonic Foundry there so I could make my friend watch a demo. No such luck. All the usual suspects were there: Apple, Ulead, Adobe, Discreet, Media100, Avid...just no Sonic Foundry.

I did my part and asked every company if there product worked with Vegas or not b/c I had made the switch and wasn't looking back. I was there schlepping for Vegas but SoFo was not.

What's up?

It is very expensive for a Wisconsin based company to show up at a West Coast event---particularly when cash is tight----

Hey did you see Spot there---???

I agree, but I also think that shows like these that cater to 'pros' in the biz would go a long way to advancing the product. Sometimes you gotta spend a little to get a return. A reseller partnership might have worked in a more affordable fashion. There are cost-effective ways to gain exposure at these events and I fear that saving a couple of bucks here and there is at the cost of winning converts and making more sales in the immediate and distant future.

& who...or what...is SPOT? :)

bottom line
there is no excuse for sonic foundry NOT to be there
i love sofo but these types of expos are a must
if they want to get the word out, this is where you do it
they didn't go to the dv expo in nyc in june
so how are they going to market their product if no one knows who sofo is
or what kind of software they have?
once people see it live--they will be amazed
but where will they see it live?
hmmmmmmmmm
i'm on sofo's side, but i wish they could market better and more aggressively, i'm sure they have their reasons
my 2 cents

We are partnering with Laird Telemedia this time around, sharing a booth. Booth 640. A number of SF people will be there demoing, selling etc. Stop by and say howdy if you are in the area.

Added incentive: Arriflex is right next door- always worth checking out the latest lighting kits from them.

Spot = Douglas Spotted Eagle
I believe.

I saw the Laird booth, but no SoFo. Are they doing any demos? I'd love to send some people that way if they are. It's good to hear that SoFo wasn't a complete NoShow, but I agree that more exposure is needed to get the word out about a great product.

SPOT would be ME! Douglas Spotted Eagle, host of the Creative Cow Vegas forum, and constant lurker here in the SOFO forums. I also have the Sundance Media Group page where you can download trainer veg files to learn more about Vegas, plus a couple dozen tutorials.
www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/download.htm will get you there.
