No sound on MP4 render from VMS HD Platinum 11

I recently acquired Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum and cannot export MP4 files with sound.

The video clips are from a Nikon D7000. There is no difficulty importing them into Vegas with the sound intact. I can render as an AVI without a problem. The resulting files play OK with sound. But MP4 files (with either AVC or MP4 file extensions) export without an audio track.

I am running on Windows 7 64 bit. I have Quicktime 7.6.0 installed. I have not installed any codec packs. Edit:: It would be more accurate to say that I have had various codecs installed in the past, and subsequently uninstalled them.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are over 20 output options from VMS 11 -- and a number of them will output an MP4.

Which Render As option did you select?

Sony AVC
Blu-Ray 1920x1080 24p
Then I customize the template and on the system tab select mp4 file format.
Under the audio tab I tick include audio. There is only one option for the audio format -- AAC.

I have tried other variations.

The strange thing is that I can render an AAC mp4 sound track on its own using the Fruanhofer template. If I try to export audio only in AAC using the AVC/mp4 template I get an error.

If I use XDCAM, I do get an MP4 video with audio track in pcm format.

I am thinking this could be a codec problem and that I need some kind of tool to sort that out.

I discovered the problem. If I start with the Blu-Ray template I will not get audio, even though I have selected mp4 in the system tab, which then allows me to tick "include audio" under the audio tab. Using other templates I can customize to achieve the same settings and an audio track will then be rendered with the video.

Glad you were able to figure it out, Michael. Happy moviemaking!
