No video (now with pic)

Ive been using vegas platinum 7 for a while and its fantastic. Ive done dozens of projects with no problems. This time is different. I bring AVI clips in. trim them on the timeline and arrange them. I save the project and when I close and reopen it, some of the clips are gone. The area is there but it is green, and when played the screen is green. But only on some videos. I havent moved the parent videos, all is the same, its just that about half of the videos are gone. They appear green on the timeline, and green during playback. This has never happened before, and I hope I havent just lost 10 hours of work. Please help.

Just an idea - but last time I saw something like this it was troubles with the codec that decompressed the avi input (the trial time limit was passed)

Sorry Vince that I can't help with your problem, but I would love to know how you were able to post a screen shot. That would help on many occasions to actually be able to show what is going on. I guess it's the picture is worth a thousand words deal. I hope one of the other members will be able to help you, as that is a very strange problem. Glad I was able to see it for myself. Good luck. Cin
PS. When you reopen your project, do you get the message about missing media?

Not sure what you mean by trial limit. Im using a full version of VMS. and when I open the parent video it plays, so the video itself is intact, it just wont play on VMS. It worked fine until i closed the program and then opened it the next day.

To OhMyGosh. to do the screen cap pic. Open whatever screen you want, like the timeline etc... Hold down "Alt+Print screen" buttons on the keyboard. Then open Photoshop or some other photo editing software, make a new file at 800x600 or whatever screen resolution size you want, and paste it into it "Ctrl+V" then save it as a .jpeg. Upload it to a pic hosting site ( I use photo Bucket) Then you can add it too your post using the URL and the HTML tag.

Hi Vince,
Thanks for your reply. I followed you until the 'pic hosting site' and the ' URL and the HTML tag' :)
As for your problem, when you try to open it, do you get the offline or missing media error message? Thanks. Cin

I thought of the codec that you use for decompresing the avi into Vegas. Many of them are available in an -i.e.- 60 days trial version.

Vegas needs other codecs than the ones that are built into Windows media player - and so you may see the video with WMP but not under Vegas.

Vegas is not delivered with "its own" codecs for all and any video formats - and so one might have to get the needed codec somewhere else.
For avi I have bought the Morgan codec from Morgan Multimedia - it is very fast and very reliable.
