Noise reduction while recording?

Have any of you heard of a noise reduction that works while recording? I can't imagine what he's talking about other than a noise gate. The person asking sent the following to me in an e-mail:
"I gotta find the 60 cycle in line rolloff filter to use when i have no choice but to interview people in offices with AC that i cannot shut off..do u know of them and where to get em."
TIA,
Randy

He is probably referring to one of these: http://www.ebtechaudio.com/he-2des.html

Software guys can just use plugin tools to do the same I suppose. I have the Waves Restoration Pack, and it removes hum quite well without destroying the audio on the track too much.

If it's just dialogue you dont need frequencies that low anyway. Many sound boards have a low freq. roll off filter at about 75hz. Or filter it out later with vegas. Also mic closer to the source if possible.
