Non-Realtime Audio Effect Problem

I tried applying a "non-realtime audio effect" like WaveHammer and Noise Gate to one of my audio events on one of the audio track. When I set it to the parameters I want, click OK and tell Vegas where to save the file, I get the following error message:

"An error occured during the operation. The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications."

If I apply the same effect to the clip in Sound Forge, it saves just fine.

I have 1GB of memory, there are no other apps open, and I turned off most of the backround apps as well. Over 900 megs of ram is allocated to Vegas. Does anyone have any suggestion for me?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
