Noncontrolable device?

I know that i can capture from VHS using my DV camera by setting the capture application to Non-Controlable Device in Final Cut Pro. Is it possible to do so with Vegas' capture app? If not how can i capture VHS without investing in cards, and other hardware?

In the Vegas capture tool, go to Options->Preferences and uncheck Enable DV device control and just capture as you normally would with FCP.

OK i tried and set teh preferences and connected a VCR to my camera (Out from VCR into camera -- my DV deck, then out from camera to computer through firewire cable.)... and nothing the square remains black even though the image from the VCR is visible on camera's viewfinder.

The camera must allow pass-thru. Some cameras also have menu options that must be changed in the camera itself. Other cameras won't accept analog in.

If this particular camera worked with FCP, it will work with Vegas exactly the same way.
