not enough memory error message

Terri French wrote on 12/14/2010, 4:01 PM
I have a Canon HF200 camcorder. I am trying to make shows with the files from it in Vegas Studio Platinum. I had a lot of problems with the AVCHD files, so I purchased Cineform and have converted my files to AVI. I can put my show together but when I try to render the video I get a message saying I don't have enough memory. I am shutting down all non-essential programs. I have an i7 pc with 9gb of ram. I don't know what else to do. Any advice would be so appreciated.

Thank you.

Vegas Platinum is a 32bit app, so it can't use more than 2 GB of RAM, so even if you have 199 GB of RAM, it won't matter. Vegas and any other 32bit app, can only "see" 2 GB.

The problem you're seeing is just a memory leak on the encoder (are you using the easy-to-leak Sony AVC encoder?). I'd suggest you create a new project on a new Vegas window, set the right project properties, and the COPY/PASTE the whole timeline to the new project. Disable Resample to all clips. Then try exporting. If you're on Platinum 10, make sure you use Main Concept for MP4, and *not* Sony AVC.

I'm not sure what you mean by set the "right project properties". What are the right project properties? Thanks. Also, I couldn't find Disable Resample to all Clips....

Thank you so much for helping me.

I still got the error message. I'm afraid I forgot to mention something in my original post. What I want to do with the video is burn it to a DVD.

Ok, do you have a LOT of still pictures in there? Huge megapixel pictures? If yes, that's the culprit.

Yes, I do have photos. Let me try doing a sample show with just videos and see what happens.

I just tried a sample movie with 10 minutes of video only in it. I set it up using all the things you mentioned and still got the error message.

I agree about Eugenia's helpfulness. It is amazing that some people will spend so much of their time helping others. I certainly appreciate it.

The last thing to try is to copy/paste the timeline in a new project, and then export as shown in that article. If that crashes too, it's time to email Sony Support. What kind of footage is that btw? What video format exactly (not AVI/MOV, but the actual format inside)?

I got it to work!! I followed the instructions on the following video.

I used method one and it worked. In fact, right now I am able to render and use the Internet at the same time. I sure appreciate your help.

What a great tip Terri! I followed the "YuoTube" instructions and fixed the same exact problem on my PC. I almost gave up and spent $100 on Adobe Premiere Elements just before finding your tip. Thanks so much.

When I try this I am unable to save the file, it will not permit me to overwrite the old file. I am logged on to the computer as administrator. Did anyone else encounter this?

So glad it helped you, too!! My software seems to be working perfectly now.

Do you mean that you can't apply the changes you made in Explorer Suite?

Terri, I'm glad you resolved your problem. The fix described in the youtube video was discussed here a while back:

I don't know if you did a forum search or not but this forum does have lots of good information, you just have to dig a little.
