NOT RESOLVED VP17 crash using Intel QSV and hang when using NVDEC.

Computer System: 7700k-16GB RAM-GTX-1080-

(All files GoPro Hero 7 Black 4k 60 HEVC)

Well I purchased Vegas 17 last month in hopes of faster render times and at least for me right now the program is very unusable. Having ZERO issues with Vegas 16 with the exact files, this is just present with Vegas 17. Anyway Ill describe the behavior on whats happening in hopes of a bug fix.

When importing my files into v17 when it is on "Intel QSV" mode my Page file on windows gets USED heavily until Vegas crashes or windows 10 itself will crash. On Vegas 16 I noticed the page-file will ONLY be used if "Thumbnails to Show In Video Events" is selected. But on 17 the page-file will get used heavily regardless of this setting and crash my system. When I switch v17 to use NVIDIA NVDEC I can import with no hangs and ZERO pagefile usage. BUT after some editing in the timeline the program gets large hangs and will freeze. I have tried NVDEC with thumbnails on/off and the issue remains.

On Vegas 16 no issues, no hangs, no problems editing. So what changed? What "hardware decoder" did/does v16 use? Additionally I have 16GB of ram and notice vegas will only use 3 to 4gb when editing projects?

That I the old preference option from earlier versions of VEGAS Pro, relocated. That's for pretty old GPUs, before MAGIX implemented support for modern GPUs in VEGAS Pro 15.

I doubt it will do anything for the OP. They want QSV/NVDEC Decoding to work, and that option really has nothing to do with either of those.

OP should turn on more comprehensive logging options and look there to see what's happening - or upload it to the forums and some of us can look at it and see if we can pinpoint where things are becoming problematic.

Try turning off QSV decode option and turning off intel graphics in bios. Not to suggest there's any reason for that to help, but you don't need QSV decode anymore with vp17, so you could try cutting out the need for dual driver support requirement all together & the possible bugs that it creates in 1st release

Completely turned OFF windows PAGE file AND using Nvidias "Studio Drivers" now. All is working great.

To be clear, did doing one not work, so the other was required from there? Can you turn your page file back on and the studio driver alone fix the issue? Just making sure, for anyone else who comes along, that we're not making them take any more steps than necessary to fix the issue.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Update: neither fixed the issue!

The main fix for me was turning OFF thumbnails in videos. no lag or program hangs what so ever now.

Vp17 is noticeably slower to build the timeline thumbnails than VP16 or could they be equally slow? Same with building audio peaks, just really really slow, but no taxing of cpu/gpu/drives

Well, new drivers, thumbnails off, page file/ on/off still crashing. Back to Vegas 16. 😰
