Notes Crashes Vegas Pro 19 Build 381

Carl-G wrote on 10/20/2021, 9:22 AM

Vega Pro 19, Build 381 crashes EVERY single time (now 22 times in a row) when pressing "Add New Note" (under Project notes). This is on a simple 1 minute project with 4 cross-fade transitions using Continuum(full bought 2020 version) that was first created in Vegas Pro 17, and opened in Vegas 19. I performed a "Reset" upon startup and cleared all previous cache. Crashes still happened. Then I reopened same project in Vegas Pro 19, and deleted all the cross-fades using Continuum, re-saved, and tried notes again - but it when pressing "Add Notes" the same crash still occurred.

If I open a project created in Vegas 19, Notes works fine.

Has anyone had a similar occurrence? Is there a solution? Is this a Bug?? (Please Vegas Programmers - look into this, I would very much appreciate your input/advice). Has anyone successfully used "Notes", while using Continuum's 2021 FULL Suite in Vegas Pro 19?????

I updated from Vegas Pro 17 to Vegas Pro 19 *Specifically* for the use of timeline reference in Notes (great feature), but it makes the entire program useless if it kills the program.

Thanks in advance for any input/advice on this.

Works ok for me though I'll admit I haven't used this feature before testing it just now.

What happens if you try this on a new project?

Why do you think continuum is a factor? It looks like you're getting the crashes regardless.

Would be interesting to see if another Continuum user has better luck with Notes. As a non-user here, no issues with Notes (used it for the first time thanks to your prompt).

Hi, I have Continuum, up to date to latest version 14.53, tried a few BCC Transitions, Notes seem to work fine, no crash, not even a flutter

Which transition did you use & have i got this right, is this what's wrong?

I've had very few crashes with Vegas lately, most of them are me confusing it with changing setting / plugins & not giving it a moment to respond.

Gid, this is the wonderful news for future projects created in Vegas Pro 19. Thanks! My Notes crashes occurred in Vegas Pro 19 *only* when I opened a Vegas 17 project created with various BCC Transitions from Continuum 2020.5 (13.1). (Vegas Pro 19 requires Continuum version 2021.1+)

The Notes consistently crashing Vegas still happened even after I deleted all Continuum occurrences on the timeline in that project. I believe some of the transitions were star bursts, etc. (I should have noted them before deleting them).

I guess the bigger question now is... in the future, IF I update to Continuum 2021.5 (v14+):
1. Will older projects created using Continuum 2020.5 even still work back in Vegas Pro 17, if I update to Continuum 2021.1? (in other words, is it backward compatible)

2. Will I be able to open old projects containing Continuum 2020.5 transitions in Vegas Pro 19 without this same Notes Crashing issue? If not, how do I work with/re-edit projects made with previous versions of Continuum?

(You've already confirmed Notes doesn't crash in new projects created in Vegas Pro 19 with updated Continuum 2021.1, thank-you).

I doubt it is backward compatible, Boris stuff seems to progress, each update over rides the last, stuff gets moved around & i think some gets removed or maybe just merged with something else. I don't know if updating you'll be able to keep the older version running as well, you'll have to ask on the Boris forum,

sorry I don't know about the V17 vs V19, i don't keep old projects, i just keep moving to the new version of whatever software it is & just accept that something older from V17 won't work in V19, the same for Continuum or other software etc., If I still had the orig footage, I'd open the project in V17 without BCC transitions, export the individual clips & rebuild it in V19 adding the new transitions, if there was an older transition that's not available in the newer version maybe it could be recreated, a lot of them are just blurs, glows, masks etc.. a pain i know but unfortunately it's hard to keep the old & a have the new.

@Carl-G, I too have a perpetual license on Continuum 2020 and would like to report to you that the "Add New Note" function works fine without any crash on VEGAS.

Until recently, tho', I too had numerous crashes with VEGAS Pro (18/19) for some time but such crashes finally stopped when I disabled iGPU in the BIOS setting. This might have been caused by a series of Windows updates, I don't know, because my iGPU and dGPU were peacefully coexisted before. In any case, just two yens from me.

PC 1: ASUS ROG Strix B-760i Gaming Wifi, 64GB RAM (DDR5), i5 14600K, 2TB M2.SSD, ASUS RTX-4070 (12GB), Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2

PC 2: ASUS Prime H570-PLUS MB, 32GB RAM, i7-10700K, 1TB SSD (M.2), 8TB HD, NVidia RTX3080 10GB, Windows 11 Home 24H2

Gears: Panasonic GH4/GH5, Sony FDR-AX100/A7C/A74/FX30

Shinra, thanks for your input. I will try disabling iGPU in BIOS.

Good suggestion for older projects. Is there a way to simply "Batch Export" all clips in a session timeline?

Sorry, don't know if that's an option & the Batch would have to be done from V17, I don't have V17 on my PC so can't look,

If it was me i'd highlight each clip & export Loop Region Only individually, even if there was a batch option i doubt i'd trust it,
