First I lost a day's work trying to get my ADVC-100 to work ( see http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=825784&Replies=4 ). Now that I've got the converter working again the capture app inside Vegas Pro 9 stops working, It starts then it hangs up to the point where I have to shut the entire PC down to get it to clear. I can't shut it down with the task manager! It just hangs until I re-boot the computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Try running "VidCap.exe" as a standalone program.

Also do you have Stop Capture on Dropped Frames turned on?

Without a TBC it is possible to get dropped frames that aren't what VidCap thinks they are. When that happens, VidCap, if you've told it to, will stop capturing.

I'm not sure how I'd do that. I pinned the capture app to the tool tray and closed Vegas. Then I reopened the capture device and it NO LONGER SAW THE ADVC-100! So, now I've gone full circle. First the PC wouldn't see it. Then WinDV stopped seeing it. Vegas recorded 2 60 second clips and then nothing on the 19 minute promo I was trying to load.
From there, it just kept crashing. Now it won't see the converter again. I've been fighting with this issue since 9am! Can you recommend another more RELIABLE CAPTURE SOFTWARE? This has been a nightmare!

You will find VidCap.exe in the same foler as Vegas from memory.

Sometime anything firewire can get confused, try unplugging the device and plugging it back in again. Also disable networking over firewire!

Neve really had VidCap fail me but it and Windoz has at times needed a bit of provoation to get it all running.

Do be careful, it is all to easy to fry anything firewire.

As for different software.
AFAIK, if Windoz doesn't see the device then no software is going to work.
There is SCLive, doubt if that's going to make any difference to your problem though.
