In Vegas 5 when you have ripple edit on and you drag an event, just the event moves and it moves under (or over) the other stationary clips as you drag it. In Vegas 6, the entire timeline ripples in real-time as you drag an event so you can SEE everything that’s going to be affected instead of guessing and finding out later that things didn’t ripple where you wanted them. IMHO, this is a HUGE improvement.

VST effects are Audio FX much like DirectX effects just using a different programming interface that Vegas didn’t support until V6. The Kjaerhus plug-ins are high quality audio plug-ins from the Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series. They have a Chorus, Compressor, Delay, EQ, Flanger, Master Limiter, Phaser, Reverb, & Auto Filter. Check ‘em out.

BrianStanding summed it up very nicely with his list. I do a lot of compositing which requires lots of tracks. Being able to drop a nested project in another project saves a lot of rendering and re-rendering when things change (and they always do). Heck, being able to actually see the length of a transition is a big timesaver. I can’t tell you how many times in the past I’ve double-clicked a transition only to check the selection length to see how long the transition is. There are a lot of little things in Vegas 6 that all add up to improving productivity. I got about 20% improvement in MPEG2 renders on my P4 3.0Ghz. But only you can determine if it’s worth it for you.

On those two counts I could not agree more. These are both pretty huge...especially the nested projects. It allows for excellent modularization.

(Thanks for the previous explanations.)

Keep Vegas five and spend the $200.00 on DVDLabPro. It does everything that DVDA does and much more.
