Now what did I do?

OK, I got all the video clips and photo's in order, and was dropping overlay titles on the Text track by copying and pasting a title.

Then, I reordered a couple of clips, and now, when I paste a title on the text track, it splits the video track below and it and moves the video apart by the length of the title.

I guess I must have hit something to cause the insert mode to change - so anyone know what it was and how I get things back to how they were?

Thanks.

I'm grasping at straws here, but is the title you're cutting and pasting part of a group? Have you tried adding a new title rather than pasting it? Do you get the same effect if you paste to the overlay track rather than the text track?

Wow, I can’t imagine what you did. I just sat here for 10 minutes with VideoFactory and the only way I could get the video track to split when I paste was if I highlighted a video event AND a title together and then pasted them. No amount of just pasting a title on the overlay track would get the video track to split. I even highlighted both tracks but only the track the cursor was on would split. I even tried it with ripple edit on and off. This is really puzzling. Try turning off ripple edit but that’s just a guess.

Well, I do have some grouping to keep the titles with the clips they refer to when I am positioning things.

Strangely though if I paste into the Video Overlay track, rather than the Text track, then it works as expected.

So I am happy pasting there and then dragging it up to the Text Track.

Thanks...

OK, now it all makes perfect sense. If you grouped the titles on the Title Track with the clips on the Video Track and you insert into the Title Track, it will split the clips to keep the group in sync. That’s why if you paste to the Video Overlay Track you do not see this effect because you are not inserting into the titles that are grouped.

If you turn Ripple Edit off (Ctrl-L) and then paste into the Title Track you will not get the split because it will not try to ripple the titles and thus split the clips that are grouped. You can then turn Ripple Edit back on after you paste. This will free up your Video Overlay Track for other things.
