NTSC and PAL gives varying results

We are trying to "stanadarize the results of a film shot half with a PAL camera and the other half with a NTSC camera (long story ...) the output looks different depending on which camara was used for the given clip.

So my question is: Can Vegas re-code these to create a homgenious result? (DVD)

TIA! Garo

Nope.
you're starting with two different resolutions, two different frame rates, and there is virtually no way you can get them to look 100% identical. Could be even worse, if you've got wildly different cameras. You can make their colors be extremely close, you can convert the PAL to NTSC and get the framerate and resolution similar, but NTSC to PAL, you'll easily notice the differences. You could also put both of them through the same hardware converter on capture via analog, and get a more similar look, but that's a guess, not anything I've ever experienced.

For a commercial example of this, the documentary "The Control Room" has a mix of PD150 PAL and NTSC footage. This wasn't done for effect, it was done because they were working with what they had on hand, two cameras: one PAL and one NTSC.

Were they at least the same model camera?
If not I'd say you've got a real problem however it may not matter so long as you're not intercutting say within the one scene. It's quite common for different 'places' in a script to be given a different look.
Bob.

Both cameras were Sonys. I think one was a VX2000 and the other a PD150. Basically the same camera aside from the format.
