Numeric Keypads on a Laptop

I'm quite use to using my DAW most of the time, and have recently been using my Laptop now that Vegas has CD architect type of features. The only problem is that Laptops don't have the numeric keys that I'm use to editing with. Does anybody know what keys or how to get the same function as "NUM-Loc/Numeric Keypad" with a laptop? I tried turning on "NumLk" and using the number keys, but this doesn't work.

We use Dell laptops where I work and when you hit the numlock it turns some of the letter keys into numbers - annoying if you need the letters as well. When our users want keypad functionality we send them a PS2 external keypad.
