nvidea driver

Woodenmike wrote on 7/6/2012, 10:25 AM
I just finished my new build with the help of my son and anxiously waited to try it out on VP11 and was disappointed to find that it got the error message that everyone has been writing about when trying to render to Mainconcept MP4. I'm using a GTX 670 graphics card and was hoping for success...then my son emailed a link to a beta driver for the nvidea cards which i downloaded and guess what....it now renders with GPU (at least the rendertest file) and it was smokin'! I have to rearrange my workspace now and can't wait to try it out on an older project to see if there are any other crashes, but keeping fingers crossed. The address for the beta driver is:

OP: What were your render speeds for the rendertest VEG using the recommended settings?

Can anyone else comment about render performance with the new BETA driver (Released July 3rd) and GTX 6xx cards? Please provide your CPU vs. GPU render speeds for comparison & try to use the recommended rendertest settings for comparison.

EVGA's download center is great for finding the latest drivers.

The driver I posted release on 7/3/12 which is newer than the one listed at the EVGA site...i had the lastest EVGA driver updated on my machine when I still had the render issue with the MainConcept AVC/AAC MP4 templates in VP11, this latest version seems to have fixed that aspect of it and is also allowing me to use the GPU rendering for MPEG2 renders.

OK, I found the beta driver you were talking about. I'll try it now. The one on EVGA didn't fix the render problem.

By the way, render without GPU was 1:48. However, the new driver does not seem to help. I still cannot render using the 680.

NicolSD, I hope it works for your machine. I was surprised my render without the GPU was as slow as it was, but then noticed that my raid array is still initializing and that really slows things down...anxious to try it under real conditions. My understanding of the driver was that it will look at the newer cards like some of the older ones that have been working...apparently the developers of the software haven't caught up to the newer cards yet as far as cuda goes, yet.

I did a cold boot and reinstallation but it just didn't help. I still can't use my 680 for rendering in Vegas. But it doesn't matter too much because I can render without any difficulty in PP CS6.

Early adopters have to deal with a very basic side of life: they have to wait until all the dust settles before their new fangled toys are working as they should.

As for your RAID, make sure you keep your data on a separate drive than your final render. SATA is not good with two way communications.

The new driver has made no difference to my issue of not being able to render 1080 50p mpg 2. Also made no difference in time to my own test renders in mp4.

GTX570 and i3770k

What is this rendertest VEG? A file we can render as a test to compare with others? Where can I get it?

It is a project created by SONY to show how using a GPU can boost the performance of VEGAS 11 Pro. Here is the link:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration

You'll see examples of GPU acceleration. Towards the bottom of the page, you'll find a link to the project. It'll say "download the files here."

New Driver is 304.79 Beta. Installed in my Vista machine. No problems so far.

I'll give the rendertest a try. Thanks
Woodenmike wrote on 7/6/2012, 7:47 PM
NicolSD, I'm sorry that didn't make any difference. Just for kicks, have you disabled the on-board graphics card from your MB? That was one of the things my son suggested that we do that I think avoids conflicts between the cards. I will be adding some additional drives to write to soon as well, but for now I hope to get back to work in a day or two.

There is no onboard video card on my mobo. It is an X79 workstation motherboard. The fact that the X79 chipset does not include a video card is one very strong point in its favor.
