If you're making Avatar II or a Smurfs movie then the AMD Vega could save you money on coloring plugins. I have read no evidence that this issue has been fixed yet.

I would think there are users who have used one or the other who could say "WoW, Vegas 15 renders FLY/Crash when using my NVIDIA/AMD card. It is a general question that should apply to GPU rendering acceleration and not file specific.

Nick; thanks, this is helpful. I doubt AMD will release a fix for this From my understanding of reading the issue, it would be up to the Vegas software programmers to update.

I would suggest the AMD card is probably the better choice for hardware video processing (not encoding) if Vegas ever fixed their drivers, but you don't know that will ever happen. Nick Hope used the onboard intel graphics for processing and it wasn't that much slower than current nvidia cards which is quite ridiculous. Although as I said in another thread the max average gpu usage I get using vegas is about 25%, but with Davinci Resolve it's 57% so Vegas just seem to make poor utilisation of GPU's

Thanks for the reply. If I did gaming, which I don't, the obvious choice would be the Nvidia. I was leaning towards the AMD card I guess because I am cheering for the underdog but my history with their drivers puts a bit of damper on it. And due to the mining people all these cards are way overpriced. I just want to be able to get the most of video editing speed and it is a darn shame that here in 2017 Vegas does not properly utilize the GPU. This company needs to put more resources into development of GPU utilization as with current tech all this processing should be almost instant.

With this kind of statement you must be very experienced in Video editting and specialised in the possibilities of the todays Vegas app. 👌
Lucky me, with less knowledge of this, who has no problems with very fast rendering with this program on desktop as laptop, faster than realtime, for making my video's (not gameplays a.s.o) 😇

Which of these cards have you tried? I produce DVDs and fast rendering has always been important for me. Unlike you, I am not extremely proficient in Vegas but am a computer hardware nerd EE. And I understand the extreme potential of GPU processing as I designed my first CAD workstation in the early 80's utilizing specialized graphics processing. And I think it extremely important for all software engineers to optimize this extreme power potential instead of relying on CPU processing. However, I have not yet tried Vegas 15 as I was waiting to finish my new build before I downloaded it. Just trying to make the best purchase possible of video card for the application and wanted feedback from those who have actually used the cards with version 15.

Then you have to wait a litlebit longer.
It is good to have some patience although maybe you should go in the hurry because making DVD's is already now a little bit out-of-date.
There are way more faster and better possibilities to share.
Hurry also because the better producers of burnable DVD's have ended their production a few years ago.

Yes, agreed. But my business model loves the sale of the DVD's and I am able to find reasonable quality of DVDs although I surely agree with you. People are slow to change, and although newer tech and means of viewing video are the future, many still love using the DVDs. I anticipate a market for the next 5 years at least.

@WindChi This is a really difficult choice at the moment. Before VP15, AMD was certainly the better choice for Vegas. But the GPU situation has changed in VP15 and I believe will change further. I also want to buy a new graphics card. It seems neither AMD nor Nvidia are really optimized in VP15 yet. If possible, wait until the next update. I would be surprised if we don't see another update within the next month (this is a guess. I have no inside information).

Thanks. I need to go ahead and purchase for this new build. All my components are incoming this week. I reckon I will toss the dice and see what happens. The AMD Vega 64 did come down just a bit from their top inflated price but my understanding is the Nvidia runs cooler. If I make the wrong choice for Vegas I can always sell the card at a loss and get the other one, but I would like a really clean install and not have to play around with drivers. Really anxious to see what the coffee lake 8700K adds to the table. I was all set to go with a Threadripper 1950x but decided on the less expensive route.

from what i heard/read intel + nvidia
