(Nvidia) FXs do not apply in real time (only after closing fx window)

Filipe-Esteves wrote on 4/6/2023, 9:33 PM

Hello

I'm aware this has happened a lot throughout Vegas Pro history but I seem to not understand how to fix it ^^"

My copy of Vegas Pro (*Post, actually) 20 (build 370) has been working just fine but now the visual effects do not apply to the preview in real time.

Important:

  • This is circumvented by switching the hardware decoder and GPU acceleration from my RTX 3070 (laptop) to AMD Radeon (TM)
  • I have installed the latest Nvidia game and studio drivers
  • Machine is an Omen Laptop 16-c0xxx ; AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics ; RTX 3070 (Windows 11)

Can I do anything about this?

Thanks in advance and Happy Easter!

Try NVIDIA driver 522.30 or older. You're not the only one seeing this.

Turn Off the Split Screen button.

Turn Off the Split Screen button.

Changes nothing. Thanks tho.

Try NVIDIA driver 522.30 or older. You're not the only one seeing this.

I updated the driver because one of my games was crashing. Since I won't be having any big editing projects for a while, do you think the next Vegas build will fix it ("A much larger update is due to come out in the next couple of months(...)")? I'll remember this number of course.

Thank you

This issue has been around since November so my guess is no.

Try contacting NVIDIA support- I just opened a ticket with them. The only other workaround you are already doing- select an integrated GPU in preferences/video. You can also select no GPU though performance will suffer.

You mean when using the "plugin chooser" ?

Indeed only applies after closing the plugin chooser.

I never noticed this as I rarely use the FX plugin chooser, I almost always choose and drop FX's straight via the tab menus (like transitions, media generator, VideoFX), a lot of them also marked as favorites. This way the effects do seem to apply immediate.

Maybe it is just me, but I do not see the extra benefit of using the plugin chooser for video FX except perhaps for finding Boris FX's as they seem to be in their proper subfolder categories which is the one reason to use the plugin chooser as opposed to the long uncategorized list of 3de party FX's otherwise...

@bitman, it doesn't matter how the effect is applied. It's all due to changes in the video driver by nVidia. The "current solution" is to use driver version 522.3.

NOVAdash wrote on 4/8/2023, 10:07 AM

Does this only affect Vegas 20? I'm using 19, have the latest drivers, and am not seeing this issue.

RogerS wrote on 4/8/2023, 10:47 AM

No, it affects all recent versions of VEGAS with mobile NVIDIA GPUs.

bitman wrote on 4/10/2023, 2:31 AM

@jetdv Ok, according to @RogerS it affects mobile NVIDEA GPU newer drivers, but not desktop GPU variants? That is why I do not have the issue?

@bitman, I'm on a mobile 3060 but I'm still running 512.96. I usually don't see a need to update the video driver unless something isn't working anymore (which has happened a few times). Given what I've seen in this thread, if I did update, it would be to 522.30...
