I wonder if anyone else has had the occasional problem I'm having. I am editing SD Mpeg2 shot with a Sony HDR-XR550VE Handycam using Movie Studio HD Platinum 11. My project properties have been matched with my source clips and I'm rendering using a custom template matching my source clips (thanks to contributors to this forum I discovered MediaInfo which helped me do this).
Occasionally, after rendering and proof viewing a project I would notice the odd skipped frame on long sequences (by long, I mean greater than the normal 4 or 5 second scene). When checking these same sequences in the project, the skipped frame(s) weren't there. They also weren't there in the original clip. Rendering again produced the same skipped frame(s) in exactly the same place.
I found a workaround by accident. I found that if I created a loop region on the offending clip in the project and rendered with the 'Render loop region only' checked the resulting clip didn't have the skipped frame. I then removed the original clip from the timeline and dropped the newly rendered clip in its place. When the project was rendered the skipped frame wasn't there.
I haven't yet tried forcing recompression to see if the missing frames are still there. If they aren't it's obviously something to do with the Smart Render mechanism.
