Oops...I messed up starting this thread though. Sorry about that. Didn't want to bring the war debate here, just thought the audio tape was funny.

Yes, in so far as Americans sanction bombing by the US military they do sanction murder. I chose the word slaughter, you chose the word liberate. Do you really think you can liberate people by bombing them? It's not the role of the United States to liberate the people of Iraq in their own country. If the US seriously wanted to help people in Iraq it would end the sanctions immediately. When Lesley StahlI confronted Madeleine Albright with the statement that half a million children had died in Iraq her response was "the price is worth it". Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and was when he was receiving support from the US. Any claim that the US is truly concerned with liberating the people of Iraq is betrayed by the historical record.

I find calling a former United Nations weapons inspector 'irrelevant' cursory. At least, as far as I know, Ritter hasn't been caught using a decade-old college post-graduate thesis as evidence of the current Iraqi threat. You mentioned that the Project on Defense Alternatives was not exactly objective. The link I gave you linked to articles from various sources including Agence France Presse, Reuters and Associated Press. If these reports are not objective would you point me in the direction of some data that you consider more objective? I hope I don't sound sarcastic - I do not mean to be. I'm based in Japan - perhaps you have access to information that I don't.

I did not write that civil liberties had been trampled on. Perhaps my use of the word 'destroyed' was too broad. I do know that the Patriot Act is controversial. From the outside I see it as 'the thin end of the wedge'. I was observing a process that seems to be underway. Finally you mentioned about waiting until Blix gave his final report. From the statements I've read so far it does not seem that the US Government will accept the report if it goes against their intentions. The US and Britain seem determined to attack. Personally, I find the idea that Iraq is currently a greater threat to World peace than the US laughable. I'm sure I'm not alone. The US wants to use force and like a spoiled child it will shout and bawl and go it's own way and thousands of corpses will be left in its wake.

C'mon BillyBoy. It's a balloon and you know it. "I only pierced one tiny hole in it ..." :-)

Tor

Edit: Gosh, I already said that. Perhaps I should start looking around for a home somewhere.

ROTFL! someone did a nice editing job on that bush clip :)

it's nice to be able to laugh at these politicians every once in a while and that's about the funniest thing I've heard in a loooong time. :) humor isn't propaganda... fear and hatred are tools of propaganda but NOT humor... right? ;)

I don't care if you're a left wing bleeding heart commie peace sissy or a crypto-fascist neo-con war hawk... that was some funny sh*te!!! :-D

"an advanced nucular weapon in his arse!" LOL what were they thinking?!

Hey Folks,

"I did ignore this till I saw 24 posts and just wanted to see why it was still going"

This earlier post says it all... Let's please give it a break and let this thread die - take the discussions elsewhere IOW. I thought it had ended with BillyBoys last post, & here it is again on the front page so-to-speak.

Whatever your beliefs, or whether or not you're just trying to share a bit of humor, things are getting pretty intense here in the US, & some of the content in this thread will turn some people off. Just the title & the number of posts turns some folks off [& yes, I do realize I'm just adding to it right now].

And when someone does get turned off, they are not going to get upset with an anonymous poster - they are going to get PO'd at Sonic Foundry, the nice folks who can't delete this thread without raising concerns about free speech.

let it die
