[OFF TOPIC] VCDEasy to close down .....

Hello All,

Vegas 3.x and 4.x burn wonderful audio CDs for me but won't look at burning a VCD for me. SoFo have duplicated the problem and are working on it. In the meantime, I searched the net and came up with VCDEasy, which has 'saved my life' until Vegas connects to my burner properly.

As a world-wide Internet NLE community I suspect you are most likely all familiar with free programs such as VCDEasy, TMPGEnc, Animator, Blender etc etc. Anyway, I was at the VCDEasy site yesterday looking at tutorials. The developer/site owner is about to close down his site, discontinue work on VCDEasy and shut up shop. Why?

There have been over 880,000 VCDEasy downloads but ..... only 5 donations. The guy just can't afford to keep going! Imagine if each downloader gave only $1 each? ......

I hope I haven't offended anyone by mentioning this, but, as I see it, we are all in this together.

Regards,
Neil Porter

I hear what ya sayin....but here is the flipside.

As you suspect there are a lot of free programs that a lot of folks in the NLE community are aware of - and you mentioned a few of them. There are also others that work very well in creating VCDs that are inexpensive and off the shelf (I picked up a few along the way at stores like Best Buy).

It is unfortunate that the creator of VCDEasy has to discontinue the product that has been created as freeware because (practically) none of the downloaders has forked over any monies for said freeware. I think this is largely due to the fact that it is freeware that makes people not think to want to fork over any money for it - because it is free...and all.

Perhaps it would have been better to make it shareware - and disable features after x-amount of days. Or, better yet, make it PleaseBuyItWare....or ComeOnHelpaBruthaOutandDropaFewBucksMyWayWare.

I think anything with the word "Free" in it is going to pretty much imply that it is "Free". I could be wrong...but that's how I see it.
