Yep. In the capture tool go to Options > Preferences... select the Capture tab and uncheck Enable DV scene detection.

Also, you need to run Win 2k or XP.

Then use the trimmer to make the subclips (not the timeline. The trimmer is the proper place to do this anyway).

Personally, I LIKE scene detection but I can see that if you want to put the entire tape into the trimmer and then pull subclips it'd be a lot easier with a monolithic media file.

Another option, if you used scene detection, is to throw all the clips onto the timeline, find and select your range, hit "s" to split it at both ends and then right click and create a subclip.

The problem with subclips is that when you drag them out they just repeat. You can't get at any of the surrounding footage-which might be nice at times. Maybe there's a modifier key I don't know about.
