Old movie film conversion

I've been using VF 2.0 for awhile and been very pleased. Mostly been putting old home videos from tape to DVD.
My problem is I have an old tape with movies transfered from old super 8 film. Most of it has a reddish tint and light and dark spots from too much and too little lighting. Is there any way I can maybe improve the quality in editing in VF? These films were over 20 years old and priceless to the family. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Since I use Vegas Video, Video Factory's big brother... I'm in the dark as to which FX filters are included with VF. If you have color curves, levels and HSL (I think those are standard, then try my tutorials.

If they truly are priceless to you there are many companies that do restorations. Even I dabble in it. <wink>

Results vary greatly depending on who does it and how bad your source files are to begin with. It can get rather expensive because to do a good job it can become very time consuming. Good Luck.

Generally, the best way to go about it is break down your source files into similar scenes relative to levels, then correct that first starting with Gamma. The idea being you want to have a good black and white image before you stat to make any color correctons.

Thank you so much. I had already tried seperating the dark frames and brightening them then applied the 50% B & W filter to the whole project which did make some difference. I'm going to do a lot of reading on your pages as I see a lot more to try. Thank you for the reply and sugestions.
