I have access to 2" and 1" PAL machines.

You can only get composite video out of them, usual trick is to have a DigiBetacam recorder recording anything that comes out of the VCR, I've heard of the oxide layer coming off old 2" tapes as they went over the heads so you want to grab as much as you can, you may not get a second chance. Also have access to a tape cleaner, if they've been stored for a long time the tape can grow fungus.
