The older version can update to the new codec. I run Media Player 6.4 on most of my computers and it plays the newer files once it downloads the codecs (which it does automatically). 6.4 was the last simple version of media player. It sure got bloated, slow, and obtuse after that version.

thanks john, but these computers cannot update...not one of their network priveleges...Very archaic, I know...but thats the school board for ya!

How about MPEG-1? Will that be good enough for what you want to do? Most ancient media players can handle it without needing any updates.

You know, mpeg1 worked, and the older players can show it, but the downside is the files is kind of large for streaming...

the wmv version is like 5 mb, and the mpeg1 is around 35mb...

Any other suggestions?!

Thnx

Will Windows Media Encoder do it for you?
It's a freebie from Redmond, takes a little while to work out how to drive it for such as simple task but can't argue for the price.
Other option, can you manually update the codecs in the machines. That might keep the board happy.
