Bought the EDL Convert Pro, works great for me, but what are we to do with all these ProTools LE systems that can't export anything really??? Not even OMF, or am I wrong?Only 8 channels of digital output, silly if you ask me...
So does that mean I get a free upgrade to Version 5 when it comes out?
I have Version 2, Version 3 Upgrade License, and a separate Version 4 license.
Will it still be Called Sony Foundry Vegas Video 5.0 ?
This EDL Convert thing looks like it might work, but I cannot justify spending
$1000 without SEEING it work on My system.
MartinK, could I talk to you more about this program and how to use it?
please email me at andy_despres@yahoo.com
They Just dropped the price to $199.99 and $214 respectively....
Is everyone SURE it will work with MACKIE SDR timestamped
broadcast Wave Files???? If so I will buy it.
Sonic Foundry should consider Acquiring this company. http://www.cuibono-soft.com/
EDL Convert PRO
Oh, I complained about not being able to transfer a ProTools LE project to my system with OMF using EDL convert Pro, but then I discovered there's a thing for PT called "OMF Tool" and "Digitranslator", has anybody any experience, prices or info, the digidesign website is hopeless, I've looked...
Sorry, this is not the right forum and also off topic, but I think this is important, at least in the pro-audio business the PT format is all over the place. Would be great to import sessions to Vegas somehow.
Dear SF,
Are you so jealous of other softwares that you won't let us talk with them? You know, some of them do things for us that you won't or aren't really very good at (yet!).
Ahhh, relationships. Who's getting used here anyway? Us folks in volunteer QA? Nobody really, it's just some constructive dialog and a little venting.
Because maybe I complained enough to get the feature implemented, so I should be able to get a free copy? At least I should be able to get a beta with that feature enabled so I can see it work before buying it........
That's nice. I can do that without buying any program...
I bought Vegas, so I should get something extra...
I am a Quality Assurance Technician by trade,
I get paid for my ideas and suggestions, and also for pointing out flaws.
That's why I would expect that....

andyd, you bought Vegas, so you got Vegas. Something extra? Well, there are tons of free downloads of sample projects, there is this user support forum, there's SonicFoundry's excellent technical support. I'd say that's some very good extras.
Next time you expect to get some compensation for your ideas, contact the company involved first and find out their policies and terms before posting your ideas in public. By posting in this forum unsolicited, you have made your ideas public property and have given up your rights to control how they are used. So sorry. Move along.
You get paid for your ideas and suggestions by your employer, with whom you presumably have working relationship or possibly even a contract. This entitles you to some consideration by them for your work. I'm guessing you are not a SonicFoundry employee or paid consultant. Why would you expect the same level of consideration or compensation from them?
Also, you should open your eyes a bit and realize that you are far from being the first person to make OMF or BW support suggestions. There have been many requests before, and also several SonicFoundry responses. You did not originate this topic. Lacking support for this feature isn't a flaw. Supporting it and having the feature not work would be a flaw. This is a feature that hasn't been implemented yet, but there is indication that it will be in the future.
So, once again, what makes you think you deserve special compensation?
"I am a Quality Assurance Technician by trade,

And by being a Quality Assurance "Technician" you should realize that your ideas and suggestions don't mean a thing until they get recognized and evaluated by the Quality Engineer above you, who then will probably inform you this idea has already been brought to the design table and considered and if it hadn't he will then have to bring your idea to the manager after he considers the feasibility. Right now your idea falls in the "don't mean a thing" category.
I'm an engineer that works with Quality Engineers and technicians on a regular basis. Seeing that I give feature suggestions to Sonic Foundry, and bug reports to Sonic Foundry on a regular basis and engineers get paid slightly higher than technicians, and I get paid $0.00 for my work from Sonic Foundry. By my calculations, you would therefoe get paid slightly less than I do....therefore, you actually owe Sonic Foundry some money.
I think it's because I feel I should get a free copy for all the hassle
I have been put through over the years with this software. From the many bugs I have to deal with and work around (Crashing, incompatiblities with other software, loss of sync problems with sound cards, out of sync audio, a promise to support larger than 4gb AVI video file size which does not seem to work) I want to see this package perform FLAWLESSLY before I shell out cash again, that is my point. Vegas 2.0 and 3.0 worked very well and NEVER crashed as much as vegas 4. I expected the same sort of reliability with this s/w and I did not recieve it. I did not expect to have to "Ping" the internet every time I start the software to authorize it, and obtain 20 or more viruses because of this new bs "Feature". My music and audio computers NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER went on the internet, and sonic foundry has forced us to use the computers on the internet. I have not been able to even start windows due to the virus infestation that occured due to this bs "Feature".
(Yes the virus checker was up to date - I did the downloads manually) , but that does not mean I didn't scan for the viruses, and they damaged the system before I could even finish the scan just after authorization.
So now I have to rebuild the entire machine, wipe out all the HDD (once they are backed up, of course) and I had to buy a Hardware firewall in order to prevent this from happening again. I attached to the internet for less than 10 minutes to load the 4.0D update, running Vegas 4 on 2 brand new hard drives that were clean, and I got attacked within the first 30 microseconds. (Win2000 with Sp3) It isn't sonic foundry's fault that I got "Hacked" but I feel the extra bs "Feature" was unnecessary. Let me call and authorize the code over the phone and let me have a code to type in or write down that is NOT machine specific. Sure, you can call but it's different every time you authorize the software. Oh well, I guess that's a perfect example of sonic foundry's new software reliablity. Vegas used to be Rock Solid - What has happened? Fix the damn bugs, and find some sort of solution that will work out for this situation.
You can choose to "register by Phone", which is a 800 number call. There is also an option in the preferences to disable the "use net notify to stay informed about Sonic Foundry products". I would recommend every user, the first time they open Vegas to go directly to the "Options>preferences" and make sure you set it to your preferences. It is good to understand every preference check in there and if you don't understand one, feel free to ask on this forum for advice.
My studio computer is NEVER on the internet either. For registration and downloads I always use another computer. And as Red says, you can also register by phone. After you install a program, SoFo gives you 30 days to register so there's no huge rush. Do you have another computer at home or somewhere else that you can use? In our studio, we bought a used computer for only $300 that we use exclusively for internet so that the audio computer can remain safe. Sorry to hear about your troubles but there are other options. And, again as Red says, if you uncheck "Use net notify . . ."in the preferences dialog box, then Vegas will not try to connect to the internet.
I am reformatting AGAIN, I will let you know how it all turns out.
So Far I've got Win2K, Norton Antivirus, Service Pack 4 and the
3.7 ATI Catalyst Driver installed. I can't wait to get everything finished off
installed, so I can be up and running again. What a pain!!
