After endless hours of capturing and troubleshooting nagging issues with HDV in Vegas... I tried HDV split and was able to capture all tapes without any splits and all the audio peaks built like a champ. I haven't started major cutting on this project yet, but preliminarily I have not noticed black frames either... We'll see.
One problem does exist though and it was a problem that Sony had actually emailed me about when V7 was first released. Of all the 8 tapes captured 1 of them will 0nly playback at about 9-14fps where the other 7 play instantly at 29.9.
When you go to vegas explorer and check the properties, all of the full speed clips show mpeg2 transport stream, but the bogged down clip says it is mainconcept mpeg2. Vegas should see it as mpeg2 transport stream to play at full speed.
I don't know how to change the way vegas interprets this file. Does anyone here know?
