On transitions

This has been bothering the hell out of me, and I have been messing with it for hours, and knowing me, its probably a simply solution. In regards to transitions, wheneve I apply one in between two scenes, its always very fast and hard to tell anything happened. How can I drag out a transition so the viewer can enjoy the 3d effects of it, or the moving of it? I just can't figure it out.

Overlap the clips farther. The larger the overlap, the longer the dissolve.

When I get confused about the amount or the postion of the "Overlap" I use the A:B Roll option by expanding the track into two tracks - Track A and Track B. This clearly identifies what is actually going on, better than just the Overlap curves.

Go to the Track Header, find the "Expand Track Layers" icon - this is just to the left of the word "Level" . Click on this and you will have the 2 "Track Layers" A and B. You will now see quite clearly the "Overlap" areas in cross hatched lines. Very useful indeed. Click on the Icon again and the A:B track layers return to the single track.
