once again..computer recommendations ?

OK.I know it's greedy.. but I like running lots of tracks with lots of effects ( I can easily go over 48 tracks on some songs). I'm tired of thecrackles and bottlenecks. I could increast the memory, but I'm at my mother boards limit right now of 512mb (it's a ASUS Cusl1). While I'm at it I may as well upgrade to a Pent 4 processor (currently running a Pent 3 1gig).

Any suggestions ?? I'm hoping this will give me more power and felxability without the snap, crackle, and pop.

I doubt that having more than 512 mb of memory would help you at all. I have 512 on my machine and never seem to use more than ~280 mb. This may not be the case if you have tons of apps open at once, but I still do not think you would see a difference in most cases. There seems to be a misconception that the more memory you have the faster your computer will be. Once you reach the point where you are not paging to the HD, the performance shouldn't change. I will state that I do not do video editing at this point and I'm not sure if Vegas could benefit from more than 512 mb in that situation.

As far as processors go, if you are open to AMD I hear the Asus A7N8X Deluxe (latest revision with 400 MHz FSB) really smokes with the faster Athlon 2800/3000. Otherwise I would go with at least a P4 3GHz and do a ton of research for the right M\B.
