Which Version of Vegas?

VP15 Latest build.

NickHope wrote on 1/20/2018, 11:58 PM

I tried to test this and find that I can't see velocity envelopes at all in VP15 build 261. Anyone else?

I setup a 23.976fps Project. Dropped 25fps Media onto timeline and pressed Conform. Vegas immediately got a Green Velocity Envelope and the "zig-zag".

Pashi wrote on 1/21/2018, 11:50 AM

"Zig-zag" is ok, but envelope velocity is set 99%. BTW, who asked to add envelope to event in this case?

Grazie wrote on 1/21/2018, 11:56 AM

Eh? When I hit conform the Envelope appears automatically.

Pashi wrote on 1/21/2018, 12:03 PM

Yep, I talking about it. Why VEGAS adding envelope in this case. Who asked?)))

Marco. wrote on 1/21/2018, 12:19 PM

Good question. The Velocity Envelope shouldn't be needed. In any cases I tested that envelope was 100 % then. Also when I used 29,97 fps media in a 25 fps project.

Is this what you are trying, resulting in a 99 % envelope – using 29,97 fps media in a 25 fps project? Or is it vice versa?

xberk wrote on 1/21/2018, 12:28 PM

>>the velocity envelope adding to this event with 99% value.

When I hit conform I get the zig-zag and veloctiy envelope set to 100% .. Very weird Pashi that you are getting 99% .. I think that Magix added the velocity envelope since changing frame rates throws things out of audio sync .. that's my guess.

From Vegas HELP:

On the Video Event tab of the Project Properties dialog, click the Conform to Project Frame Rate button.

The event's Playback rate value is calculated to allow the event to play back using the project frame rate. For example, if you add a 120 fps clip to a project with a frame rate of 30 fps, the event's playback rate will be set to .25.

Event playback is limited to a range of .25 to 4.0x playback. If the event needs to be modified beyond that range, a velocity envelope is applied. For example, when using a 240 fps clip in a 24 fps project, the event's playback rate is set to .25, and a velocity envelope is applied to achieve the required playback rate of .1. In these cases, the event's audio will not play in sync with the video.

Good points, xberk. I think that explains why adding the Velocity Envelope is not a bug. And it actually works here that way – if adjusting playback rate exceeded its limit, the envelope helps. But this would mean Pashi's media's and project's frame rate would differ more than 4 times.

Pashi wrote on 1/21/2018, 3:02 PM

Have you hit "Set" button or just led mouse over the point?

Seems you're right but 29,977*0,834*99%=24,75 and video is jerking. Maybe that's because envelopes can't use fractions, only whole numbers. So this is still a bug for me. Deleting 99% make a big deal.

Marco. wrote on 1/21/2018, 3:12 PM

So you actually use 29.97 fps footage in a 25 fps project? And is it 29,97 or 29,977 (which would be non-standard)?

Pashi wrote on 1/21/2018, 3:24 PM

Vegas shows it as 29,977 but Davinci Resolve shows 29,97. I beleive actually it's 29,97. Davinci simply interpret it as 25p footage without any problem. I think add option to change video frame rate in Vegas to hard and we'll never see it. Unfortunately DJI Spark shoots only 29,97 with no option. So seems it's not a bug but interface limitation.

Marco. wrote on 1/21/2018, 3:31 PM

That sounds like there is some bad information in the header of the files. In some cases a simple re-wrapping helps.

I'm just about to download a DJI Spark sample file to see myself.

Marco. wrote on 1/21/2018, 3:55 PM

That's it. I can repro your issue with the original footage. While a mouse-over on the envelope says it's 100 %, taking a look into that "Set …" option it tells it's 99 %.

Then again – right as supposed – I rewrapped same file with Vegasaur and the rewrapped one now is properly detected as 29.97 and the envelope is really set to 100 %.

xberk wrote on 1/21/2018, 5:07 PM

Same here. Downloaded some sample DJI Spark footage and results were the same as Marco.

Thank you Marco. "Show Envelopes" was off in there. Not sure why as I've never really noticed that option before. Probably user error, but I have had event headers turn themselves back on a couple of times in VP15 without me asking.

If I conform DJI OSMO 29.97p footage to 25p, I get a velocity envelope at 100%.

If you click "Set To" it will show you 99%. If you put mouse over envelope it shows 100% Only Creators knows why. Anyway, the footage is jerky until you remove this envelope. I will add "interpret footage" option to my BIG wish list)

Marco. wrote on 1/22/2018, 3:11 AM

To repro maybe several things must taken care of:

- Ensure all So4 Compound components are set to default (enabled).
- Mavic Footage is read as 29,977 by Vegas Pro.
- Project properties are set to 25 fps.
- Disregard the mouse-over percentage display of Velocity Envelope but right-click the envelope and see (without) modifying) what the "Set to" value says.

In my case not. It shows me 100%.

Yes but my DJI OSMO footage is read as 29.970fps.

Has a sample been shared? Can't see a link to one.
