One more question...about capture from vhs.

Dr_X wrote on 10/16/2003, 9:28 PM
I have to copy some clips from several vhs tapes to one file then create a new tape with that file. I have a cheap pci capture card and it has a svideo input i can use for the cap, a composit output from the vcr, and an adaptor (composit to svid). I tried using Vegas 4 to make the file but i guess i just don't know what settings i should use. When i played back the AVI file, and had media player go to full screen, it looked terrible. the settings i had was NTSC_M (whatever that means), 320x240, color/space compression = rgb 24.
capture properties reports there are 525 lines detected. does that have a lot to do with the 320x240? When i try to change the dimentions, the prevew goes to blue and an error message says that it is unable to find a filter. what should i change to make this capture properly?

Thanks for all the help.

PS: Thanks all for the help in my other thread. It worked out well and you guys are all great.

My vote would be your input device. I think you'll be much happier if you capture with a standard OHCI firewire card. Of course you then need an external convertor - do you have a camera with pass-thru capabilities?

Hi Jetdv.
Yes, I think I do have a pass through. I just dug up this sony cam some one left here a while back. I just connected the output of the vcr to the svideo jack on the cammera. then connected the firewire line to the dv out on the cam and redetected stuff. however, then i go to the capture dialogue, it shows for an instant the video then jumps directly to that blue screen only this time it says "insert a tape". I'm sure the video will be much cleaner this way if i can get it to accept the fact that i want to capture without a tape. or is that an issue?

thanks for answering Jetdv. I really appreciate it. i have to return this vegas thing soon. I won't be able to play as much as i'd like although i think i can have it for the weekend.

Simple solution. In the capture program go to Options - Preferences and turn OFF device control.
