I've used Audacity to do get a single track audio into two channels.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It's free.

How do I use audacity? Can I call it up from the MS audio plug-in chooser?

You can also do it in MovieStudio by going to Insert, then Audio Envelope and selecting Pan.

This will make visible a line runnng down the center of your audio wave form on your timeline. That line represents center and the wave form above and below it are your left and right channel. All you've got to do now is pull the line toward the track that has sound and it will even the sound out betwen the two channels.
