Place one video clip on the Video track and the other on the Overlay track. Move the mouse pointer to the top edge of the Overlay clip. You'll see the pointer change into a hand with a pointing finger when it touches the top edge. Drag the edge down and a little box with pop up showing the opacity value. Normally opacity is 100%, which means that a clip on a higher track blocks clips on lower tracks. If you drag the opacity to 50% then you will see an even mixture of that clip and the clips below it. Slide this line up or down until you get the effect you want.

Awesome! Thanks that will work out perfectly. I was almost there but was trying to do it with the fade icon not the hand. Thanks!

I've been reading some of your posts. Sorry to hear about your problems. Hang in there. Once you start learning the power of MS you'll be amazed. I'm just a hobbiest but moved to Vegas 3 and then upgraded to 5+DVDA. Power is addictive!!!

Thanks, I think in just the couple of days I have resolved all my issues with the interface. I like the storyboard for a simple picture slideshow, but I can see how it would be hard to implement when you have a couple of layers of video.

I will probably keep Studio on the computer for the simple slideshow, but for all others I will be using Vegas Studio. I am just a hobbiest as well, and I had to exercise real self-control not to go up to Vegas 5. I am not quite there yet, but if I continue to develop I am sure I will at some point. In the past I have had the tendency to buy the best product out there and then not use all the features.

Well I should be getting my full version in the mail today:-)
