Only audio plays in vegas

Video doesn't play. only audio. It looks like problem video. Is there something that can fix it? I was hoping the video(vision) is actually there but the meta data info is corrupt and that is why it doesn't play? Although the bitrate seems a bit low so maybe not

This is a recording of a live YouTube video using VLC, live playback on VLC was fine, but something is wrong with how it recorded. I can compare it with another live YouTube recording made with another product. (not of the same video) that recorded successfully

My suspicion is that the problem lies with the fact that they are both variable frame rate recordings with some pretty extreme values.

In the first:

Bit rate                                 : 46.1 Gb/s

Frame rate mode                          : Variable
Frame rate                               : 1000 280.992 FPS

And in the second,

Frame rate                               : 23.119 FPS
Minimum frame rate                       : 0.300 FPS
Maximum frame rate                       : 66.667 FPS

For metadata, you might also try FFmpeg to see if if gives the same info.

If you have VideoReDo, you might try running it through their StreamFix option. If you have HOS, you could try a rewrap and conversion to CFR. If not, then I would suggest you attempt a transcode. You could always try Handbrake. If you have a sample, I'll do some testing. Good luck.

@wwaag I recorded a minute from a live youtube stream today. It has the same characteristics . I do have one of the older videoredos on another computer but i'd be interested to see if your HOS can easily fix this. Recording of live youtube fails like this using VLC but has no problems recording other live streams. Nothing I"ve tried so far recognises the recorded youtube files as valid video/audio media

Sorry. No cigar. HOS doesn't work at all since it requires FFmpeg which complains that it can't find the codec parameters for the video stream. Also the bitrate and frame rate are truly "weird". Also, like your finding, it won't open in anything I have including VLC--just audio. I've never recorded a YT live stream so I can't help. I would suspect that OBS might work whose output is Vegas friendly. If VLC recording works for other streaming, but not YT, perhaps it's YT's way of copy protection?? Wish I could be of more help.

VideoReDo Quick Stream Fix hangs at 9%.

Trying to save to another format in VideoReDo only gets about 3 MB while your sample was ~36 MB. I'd stop messing with it now.

lenard wrote on 12/5/2020, 10:42 PM

YT copyright protection, that is an interesting idea. It is the only live stream that plays fine in vlc but doesn't save. So that is a lesson. don't use VLC to attempt to save live YouTube Video, another software called VideoMass will sucessfully save YT LIve video IF it can start the recording, but also oddly it often gets an error message when attempting to start the recording

Yeah JohnDennis, I've now decided the footage is lost, luckily some of the YT VOD's of the live streams are still available so I can assemble a vegas edit but with less footage.

Thanks for the help, learnt a valuable lesson today
