Only MXF render options are available

I'm stumped. I want to render as an MPEG-2 to make a DVD, but only the MXF render options are selectable. When I render with the MXF option there is no sound, and DVD Architect 5.2 says it can't use the MXF file.

I'm using Vegas 11 build 521. My source video came from a Sony A1, and the clip properties show attributes 1440x1080x12, Format MPEG-2, Frame rate 29.970 (NTSC).

I just want to render my project into a format that can be used by DVD Architect 5.2 to make DVD's.

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I can't figure this out, and can't understand why I don't have any other render options available.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Your render for DVD using the MPEG-2 DVD Architect video template, and the AC3 DVD Pro audio template. That's two files. Anything else is asking for a recompress in Architect, which hurts from both a time and quality standpoint. Properties are customizable, assuming you stay within the DVD standard.

You have a high definition video and normal DVDs are only standard definition. If you want to make a normal DVD then you should render using a DVDA NTSC template. Since the video frame size has to be changed, be sure to set the de-interlace method to "interpolate" (or "blend") in your project properties, and the render quality to "best".

Render the video and audio separately to give a video only file and an audio only file with the same file stem name. Be sure to select the audio template for DVDA Pro if that is what you are using.

EDIT

musicvid can type more quickly than I!

Only the render selection under "Sony MXF (*.mxf)" are selectable, all other selections cause the render button to go grey.

Can anyone tell me why?

I searched for "DVD Architect" and did find a template, and it is working on the render now.

How would someone know to search for that Template? I have the "view all options" selected, but it still did not show up.

Once this render finishes I'll search for AC3 DVD Pro and see if I can find that one and get it to work.

This should not be this hard. Come on Sony, please make this more obvious, the templates should be listed, it's for your own program.

DVD is MPEG-2, not MXF.
You access the formats through File->Render As.
You are using Vegas Pro, not Vegas Movie Studio, correct?

OK, I searched for AC3 DVD Pro, DVDA Pro, and *Pro*, and didn't find any template. I'm looking under "File/Render As", am I looking it the right place?

Appreciate all the help.

AC3 is Dolby Digital format . . .

Best of luick.

Thanks, found it. I didn't realize that the Dolby AC-3 was like a header with items hidden under it. Once I expanded then the "render" option became available.
My menu looks a lot different than the one you show, but it is there. I knew it was something I was doing wrong.

Thanks again.
