Opacity problems: any solutions?

Hope everyone had a grand Thanksgiving. Ours was complicated by me and the Opacity envelope. After burning an order of 40 DVDs I discovered that the Opacity was set at 98% rather than 100% on about twenty of the clips on one track. I had to check each clip manually and reset the Opacity bar to 100%, and am now waiting for the re-render to complete so I can do another 40 DVDs.

I have two questions:

1. Is there any way to change the color of the Opacity bar? I know the color of
envelop bars can be changed, but I couldn't find any way to do it for Opacity.
Being able to make the bar bright yellow, red, white, etc., would make it a lot
easier to see.

2. Is there a script anywhere that will allow the Opacity bar in selected clips to
be returned to the 100% position or, for that matter, to be set to a specific
value?

I'm headed for the left-overs now, and a long day of burning and printing.

Under Options/Preferences/Display, you can choose the color for the compositing envelope.

With scripts like Ultimate S and (I believe) Excalibur, you can reset the opacity of EVENTS but not tracks, to 100%. In Ultimate S, it's in the Audit tool. This does not affect the compositing envelope, it only affects events.

Don't need a script for that. If you drag the opacity setting on one event, the opacity will change for all selected events. Is that how you got into trouble in the first place?

Very likely, Gary. I'm really not sure how it happened.

Thanks guys. All seems to be well now.

This is such a common problem that I wrote a script a long time ago to detect opacity levels that have inadvertently been "nudged." You can download it over at the VASST site. You'll find that the same problem can exist on audio tracks.

On the VASST site, just navigate to Free Resources -> Automation Scripts. Then, type "audit" in the search box. You'll find both of my auditing scripts. (The other auditing script is also quite useful: It finds really short gaps or overlaps between events on the selected timelines).

Johnmeyer: Great! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks much.
