Open audio editor

I highlighted the audio on the timeline, clicked tools, audio and selected open in audio editor. Sound forge 10 opens and I get an error stating "error occurred while opening one or more files, file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and you have access to the file".

I then tried the same thing but selected open a copy in the audio editor. It opened fine.

What is causing this error? Using SVMS 12Plat.

What format is your audio? Is it a WAV file?

Sound Forge can't open/edit AC3 audio. Try "open copy" instead of just "open". This will cause Vegas to create a .wav copy of the audio which Sound Forge can handle.
