open *.omf files?

Newbie here, you experts offered great feedback on my sound forge question, so I come to you again. I have a disc with *.omf file (135 tracks) from a vocal recording session (using Sonar) out of state. Is there a way I can open and listen/edit these with Vegas 4.0 now that I'm home? Can't stand to wait for the snail mail *.wav versions, and I can't find a conversion utility. Vegas does not list omf as a supported format and sure enough it won't open.
Thanks so much, J

You need software like edl convert pro. I have it and it works. It's $200, though.

Charles,
Can you save to and from .omf with the edl convert pro software? So if someone brought me in a Protools session in .omf format, and I did some editing in Vegas could I give them a .omf project back? If this is possible could you outline the steps in how to make this work with Vegas. I need to look for a solution, since Sony doesn't seem to consider this a high priority feature like opening an Adobe photoshop file.

Thanks,
Red

The way it works is you can open an .omf in EDL Convert Pro, save to Vegas edl (or many other programs) and then open in Vegas, and then save back to Vegas edl, import that into EDL Convert and save to .omf.

Thanks Charles,
That's what I figured, just wanted to be sure before investing in an outside conversion program.

Appreciate the help,

this is a big one here as well

Knowing this, whats to stop the PT guy from choosing NOT to save as *.omf and also not saving with the "pc compatibility" checkbox on?

nothing. You have to tell them to. OMF is not native to Pro Tools (at least not LE). The pro tools person has to buy a $495 program to save as .omf or .aaf.

Well, I'm glad there is at least a solution, I'm not so upset now. I'm not too familiar with the .EDL format. Do other programs use this format? Nuendo? Sonar? Protools? Logic? Or is Vegas the only one? Now my only gripe is that I need a way to open an Acid project in Vegas. Acid doesn't seem to save in .EDL, which probably makes sense, because it's just a text file type of format. Which to me , means it wouldn't handle all the loop stretching stuff from acid and probably is an open format which basically tells where the media is located and the start, end, track, timeline information.

Thanks for this info - is there possibly a demo version, short term trial or something? I did an internet search and came up with nada.

Thanks for this link. I tried to download it several times, but it only loads about 1/8 of the expected file. I have cable modem, etc. but this seems to be faulty, unfortunately. And the engineer has emailed me yet that the files are in the mail - aaarg.
