If you run WinXP, try converting those files to AVI with MovieMaker then open those files in Vegas. That should work.

Sorry for asking a daft question but do you have Quicktime installed? My Vegas has no problem reading or writing to the Quicktime format.

Try installing quicktime again but this time choose Custom. When the selection screen comes up, pick EVERYTHING. The Authoring components are needed for Vegas to use Quicktime.

If you are trying to open a .mov file, try renaming the extension as .mpg.

Renaming an extension cannot just automatically convert a video format. You have to use software to convert it first. And if you rename it without converting it, it will create even more of a problem
