No, Vegas .VEG files are not backwards compatible.

Doesn't save as AAF and open that in V7 work at all?
If that doesn't work a basic EDL should, surely.

usually you can open the V8 project, do a Ctrl-A to copy all events on the timeline, then paste into a blank V7 (be sure the Properties in V7 are appropriate for the project). This almost always works OK for me, for I avoid Pro-Type and other new features of V8.
