Just installed vegas 5.0. I am running an HP with AMD 3.2 mgh processor, 512 gigs RAM, plenty of space. when the application opens I get an error message....

System error:
The Win16 subsystem was unable to enter protected mode, DOS.exe must be in your autoexec.nt and present in your path.

they are in my path and I have tried all the fixes I can find out on the internet including the help sites on microsoft....still nothing works. I have even taken the dos.exe and autoexec.nt from another computer and still nothing.

Is there compatability issues with other programs?and if so what are they?

thanks for any help that can be provided

What operating system are you using? It seems like you must be using some variety of Windows NT. Vegas 5 requires Windows 2000 or XP. Theoretically it shouldn't even have installed if you're using anything other than these.

there were 2 twain_32.dll files...one in the windows/system32 folder and one in the windows folder. the one in the windows/system32 folder was older so I replaced it with the one in the windows folder...

Vegas opens with no problems

problem solved!
