Opening AVI file produces only a sound track

I've just started to play with Vegas Video, and am trying to import media.
Some AVI files show up only having Audio content, although they can be played
successfuly in Media Player. Other AVI files are shown with Audio + Video
content, as I would have expected.

Any ideas?

where did these files come from? What video codec was used to create them? (Media Player properties will tell you)

The file was uploaded from a Fuji FinePix 2800z. Media Player does not provide details that I can see, except that in the Advanced tab, files that can be open in VV have a 'DV Video Decoder' filter property and in those I cannot open, this is not
present - does this provide any clues?

FinePix .avis will not work in Vegas (or Premiere).

Why don't they work in Vegas but cab ne played in MP?
