opening Iphone MOV clips

Mondo Art wrote on 6/18/2016, 11:16 AM
Hi all

I get an error when I try to open an MOV file from my iPhone. I'm using Vegas Movie Studio 11 HD Platinum. The error says the QuickTime plug-in could not initialize. I have the latest version of Quicktime Player, but not Quicktime full (if it even exists anymore).

I'm running on Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

Is there a workaround here for me?

Thanks

Neel

Hi Mondo Art,

If your iPhone source media worked before on a previous version of Windows, and now you are using Windows 10, there could be an issue in how you installed the Windows 10 and Movie Studio. I'm still using Windows 7 and not familiar with Windows 10, just have read a bunch of stories with problem to work out. The best I have heard is to clean the drive, clean install of Windows 10, then clean installs of application programs. I'm not suggesting you do this, unless someone else with direct experience suggest to.

With that said, there is something you can try that shouldn't take long and should be safe. Download Quicktime player version 7.7.6 which some have reported corrected problems they experience using later version. Here is a link: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1822?locale=en_US.

Shut down Movie Studio, uninstall your current Quicktime version, install the version 7.7.6, and then test your iPhone media with Movie Studio.

Thanks for the reply George.

I did a clean install of Win 10. I was running Quicktime Player 7.7.9, so I uninstalled and reinstalled 7.7.6 - got the same error message in Vegas.

I also tried it on my laptop which is running Win 7, and still the same error.

Can anyone recommend a free converter application I can use to change the format?

Thanks

Neel

Handbrake is certainly worth a try!

Another one is Any Video Converter, easy to use interface.

However if you are willing to spend some time learning, Handbrake I think provides a lot more flexibility and control over the convertion to (x264).mp4.

Tried the free GoPro Studio?
Tried Movie Studio Platinum 13 trial?
Tried reinstalling Vegas after installing Quicktime?

Thanks guys. I did try Any Video Converter and it did the trick. I used the Sony TV x264 preset.

Might try your suggestions as well, musicvid10 for next time, as the converter took some time.
