Opinions on the new auto tracking

REALOldNick wrote on 3/23/2019, 6:04 AM

I have seen a couple of YT videos showing how to set up tracking with bipolar entrapment, or whatever it is 😆....no...I should not jest .....Bezier Masking. The demos were using fairly static or slow moving subjects: a car's tail light and a man's hand etc.

I of course tried it on a couple of dogs playing in a park. It generated the anticipated hundreds of key frames, but struggled to hold the chosen subject in playback when there was a lot of interaction and sudden movement.

I am not sure if I need to hone the technique (make the Bezier "noose" smaller etc).

Has anyone with a bit of practice tested this to its limit? Is it good? I have to say that even if limited it's better than marking many key frames.

Interested in opinions.

Nick

Its nice to have some tracking built it finally but it needs to track objects. Right now its only effects or text. Sometimes you can cheat with weird wingding like text characters or 0 or O blown way up to look like yor highlighting something. I wonder why it took so long, isn't image stabilization sort of like reverse tracking and we've had that forever.

Motion Tracking in Movie Studio can be transfered to any kind of video object, it is not limited to effects and text objects. There's a "Copy Motion Track to PiP" command to do this.

Is that coming to Pro 16 you think?

That "Copy Motion Track to PiP" command is available both in Movie Studio 16 as well as in Vegas Pro 16.

In Movie Studio it's in the Tools/Extensions menu, in Vegas Pro it's in the Tools/Scripting menu.

Ok now I am confused 😖. At this stage I will try to follow up on what has been said. But still want to know people's views on the actual efficacy of the tracking.I did learn about tracking losing its target and you have to reset. That made it better. But still I use small frolicking dog and my results do not leave me feeling that it can handle anything more then relatively steady movement: the dog was often going in and out of the Bezier frame.

Did you try that function in Vegas Pro ( f.i.as a trial)?

There you have more options and possibilities to select.
In this case I think the amount of placed keyframes are important with 1 keyframe and 5 frames later the next keyframe in the Studio version

in the Pro version there are more settings possible and in this case you can set the amount of keyframes on 1 each frame

OK. Thanks. I do not have enough usage to let me buy Pro. It's not about 1 or 5 frames, it would seem to me. The dog is out of the mask for a large part of the time and for long durations.

I could of course be wrong.... 😲  I will try the Pro trial to see what happens.

I tried both Studio and Pro and found neither very effective. For the very few occasions when it would be useful to me I can put up with doing the job manually.

WOW! Thank you. That is not just I wanted to hear, but what I needed to hear 😆. If only because it may produce polarised discussion and input from people who have had different experiences and we can talk about why.
