Why export when you can just drag the MOV files from the explorer pane right onto the Vegas timeline?

AVI files, like MOV files are just containers and can hold just about anything. If you insist on exporting, then we need to know what format you want to export too. If it's for later editing, then DV is a good format.

Thansk Scott.

Vegas would not allow me to import/open/drag mov files so I have to convert them over to DV/avi or other format..

I will be editing these files later so maybe I should go ahead with DV instead...

Difference between AVI and DV file then?

WHy do u think DV file is a better format for editing - as opposed to avi format?

Have these MOV files been created using FCP capture app?
I don't exactly know if FCP produces these files extension when capturing but learned a few time ago that HD files captured in FCP won't work in Vegas...

AVI isn't a format, it's a container. An AVI file, like a MOV file can hold all kinds of different things. DV is one of the things an AVI file can hold/contain. I suggest DV because it's the native format for Vegas.

Thanks Scott - Will seek other opinions but it seems DV is the way to go - really appreciated your input.

Ftz - MOV files captured only by my digital still camera.

I had the same problem with MOV files from a digital still camera. You should be able to drag the MOV files to the Vegas timeline IF you have the right decoder for the MOV file installed on your PC. I think you can inspect the MOV file with GSpot to determine which codec is needed.

AVI and DV are not alternatives.

You can have a DV avi, and many other types of avis.

You can also have a DV .mov, and other types of movs.

Depends on which codec is used.
