Optimal sound card to interface with Vegas 4.0

I am an audio engineer that has been working at home with Vegas 4.0 for a year now. I am on a Sony Viao desktop media box. It came with a Yamaha sound card. The dynamic range of this sound card is not optimal for audio recording through the Vegas Software. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with a different more high end sound card that could steer me in the right direction before I purchase a $600 paper wieght.
Thanks

I'm using a M-Audio Firewire-410. Pretty basic kit but fine for a laptop if it's got a firewire port, even if it hasn't PCMCIA firewire cards are pretty cheap. I think also Echo make some decent PCMCIA audio gear. Just avoid anything USB from what I've heard if you want to push the sampling rate.

I use a Motu 24i - works great with the ASIO drivers and Vegas 4.0. I can record 24 tracks all day long, and I have a -110dB noise floor.

I like the Motu. Have use the original Motu 2400 for 5 years. Works great. 8 analogue to digital, 24 Adat or Taskam digital input.

I use a echo indigo i/o card for my laptop....it works great and my recordings are professional at a 24 bit digital sound.

We can probably give better specific advice if you tell us specifically how you intend to use it. Are you going to use outboard pres, mixing board, need more than two inputs...?
